The Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) Program focuses on the language, literature and culture of deaf communities in Brazil and in other countries. In order to enter the program, the candidate must choose between a teaching degree and a degree that leads to a translation/interpretation career. In the first degree option, the student will complete a teaching internship in public and private schools. In the other, the student engages in practical internships in the field of translating and interpreting in various contexts, particularly in the educational context.

The Brazilian Sign Language teaching graduate can teach Libras as a first language to deaf students in primary and secondary schools, as well as as a second language to hearing students from primary school to higher education (in particular in all degrees across the country that have a teacher training component, as they shall now offer mandatory Libras courses to undergraduate students according to the Decree no. 5626/05). Besides, the Libras teacher can also work in institutions specializing in the teaching of Libras, such as federations and associations of the deaf.  On the other hand, the translation and interpretation professional can act as an interpreter in classrooms, meetings and conferences, as well as in the translation of technical and literary texts and in text revision and proofreading.
