CWUR 2026 Ranking keeps UFSC among Brazil’s Top Universities
The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) has maintained its strong position in the 2026 edition of the Global 2000 ranking, published by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). The university ranked 13th among institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, 9th among Brazilian universities, and 5th among Brazil’s federal universities – the same positions it achieved in 2025.
According to the ranking, UFSC is among the top 3.5% of universities worldwide. Of the 21,291 institutions evaluated, UFSC placed 732nd globally. The full ranking was released on 1 June and is available at cwur.org/2026.
Among the indicators that contribute to UFSC’s overall score of 72.40, the university ranked 697th worldwide in Research and 1,314th in Employability.

Methodology
CWUR evaluates universities using indicators grouped into four major areas: education (25%), based on the academic success of a university’s alumni; employability (25%), based on the professional success of a university’s alumni; faculty (10%), measured by the number of faculty members who have received top academic distinctions; and research (40%), that measures research output, high-quality publications, influence (number of research articles appearing in highly-influential journals) and citations (number of highly-cited research articles). For the 2026 edition, CWUR analyzed 81 million outcome-based data points to rank 21,291 universities worldwide.
