Administration

20/03/2020 16:26

UFSC Administration program prepares students for a diverse job market and a multifaceted society.

Theory and practice are combined in the curriculum to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of organizational structures and their respective management models. The courses aim at encouraging a broad view of the role of managers and their performance in organizations, as well as of the environment in which they operate and with which they relate.

In the job market, administrators secure positions in a wide range of areas, including general management, operations, marketing, finance, strategy and entrepreneurship, as any organization, whatever its size and complexity, needs qualified professionals for business management.

Through partnerships with various organizations, students have the opportunity to undertake internships that help them prepare for their future careers and also facilitate employment after graduation. Additionally, students can join the Ação Júnior and Invest Jr., enterprises run by themselves under the guidance of faculty members, providing consultancy services to diverse organizations.

Administration students can also engage in research and outreach activities, by working in projects coordinated by the program’s faculty, and take part in other student activities, by becoming a member of the Administration student association (Centro Acadêmico de Administração – CAAD) or the student athletic association (Atlética ADM UFSC).

Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

20/03/2020 12:35

The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology program aims to prepare professionals who have a generalist, humanist, critical and reflective profile. The four-year program is composed of thematic modules and individual courses that complement each other through theoretical and practical classes, internships, didactic activities, research initiation and outreach activities. The curriculum structured in modules allows the construction of integral, non-fragmented knowledge, built from the various areas of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and other related fields.

The speech-language pathologist and audiologist promotes, prevents and carries out assessments and treatments related to oral and written language, voice, hearing, orofacial myology and swallowing. The specialties in the field are: audiology, language, voice, orofacial myology, dysphagia, educational speech-language pathology and audiology, and collective health.

The speech-language pathologist and audiologist graduated from UFSC is qualified for a career in clinical and educational areas as well as in public health. The program provides a humanist training concerned with collectivity, resulted from the interconnection of speech-language pathology and audiology with the current principles of the Unified Health System (SUS): universality, equity and integrality.

Such training considers the insertion and growth of speech-language pathology and audiology in the field of collective health. This growth has been legitimized by federal, state and municipal laws concerning the area within the Unified Health System, such as the structuring of the National Network for the Integral Health Care of Workers, the National Policy of Hearing Health, among others.  Since the early stages, students participate actively in theoretical and practical courses and in internships that promote critical and reflective thinking related to the various areas of speech-language pathology and audiology, with emphasis on collective health.

This way, the program aims to provide students with competencies related to: health care, decision making, communication, leadership, management, permanent education, logical reasoning and critical analysis, interdisciplinary team work, research initiation, and the appropriation of values related to the social, justice and ethical aspects of the profession.

Students in the program also gain practical experience through the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Teaching Clinic, where they assist individuals with various communication needs. The clinic provides a range of services, including evaluation and therapy for oral and written language, voice, orofacial motricity, dysphagia, and audiology. It also offers literacy workshops and treatments for students with oral or written language issues, individuals with early-stage dementia and aphasia, and children struggling with reading and writing difficulties.

Students also complete supervised internships at the University Hospital.

Spanish Language and Literatures

20/03/2020 12:34

The Spanish Language and Literature program at UFSC is organized around three core areas: Linguistics, Literature, and Translation Studies, complemented by Spanish language courses that emphasize both oral and written skills. The curriculum begins with a basic cycle covering the first four phases, after which, in the fifth phase, students can choose between two distinct degree paths: a teaching-focused degree or a research-oriented degree that opens doors to other professional opportunities.

Graduates of the program are equipped to pursue diverse careers in language-related fields. Teaching remains a central career option, with opportunities available in both basic and professional education, as well as in independent language courses. Additional career paths include translation, editing, proofreading, content creation, and entrepreneurship in these areas. Many graduates also continue their academic journey by enrolling in graduate programs.

The program is supported by a highly qualified faculty actively involved in teaching, research, and outreach projects. These initiatives provide students with valuable hands-on experience through programs such as the Teaching Initiation Program (PIBID) and the Research Initiation Program (PIBIC), as well as opportunities in arts, culture, and community outreach. Students further benefit from international partnerships that offer scholarships and avenues for volunteer involvement in academic projects.

Social Work

20/03/2020 12:33

The UFSC Social Work program aims to prepare students for the social work practice grounded in a critical analysis of the social reality in order to confront social inequalities.

This requires the development of special skills to act for the strengthening of egalitarian and democratic practices in the interpersonal and institutional scope, while at the same time confronting the mechanisms of oppression and reproduction of subalternity. It is essential that the social worker graduated from UFSC masters the political strategies of social mobilization in order to place popular participation as both a means and an end in the process of ensuring social rights and in designing and implementing public social policies.

It also requires mastery and application of techniques for designing, executing and evaluating plans, programs and projects in the social area, as well as of the dynamics of organizing, planning and managing benefits and services (i.e. visits, technical investigation, reports and information releases on Social Work matters), combining the professional specificity with the interaction in interdisciplinary teams. All this associated with the strategies for disseminating institutional information and guiding the population on identifying resources to assert and defend their rights.

The program develops theoretically critical social workers committed to the achievements and struggles of the working class, able to politicize demands and to strengthen popular participation for the breaking down of political subalternization processes.

It is structured into three sections: i) theoretical and methodological foundations of social life, ii) socio-historical foundations of Brazilian society, and ii) foundations of social work practice. In the early stages, students take general courses, such as: Socio-Historical Formation of Brazil, Introduction to Sociological Theory, and Political Science. In the second half of the program, they take specialized courses on Social Work matters. The curriculum also includes a supervised internship that must be carried out along three consecutive semesters, starting from the sixth semester, and a final thesis (TCC), which must be written in the final semester.
